Leopard X 2

Welcome to the new and improved By Request website! We are so thrilled to have converted our website from a traditional e commerce site, to a simple shoppable blog. By Request has been successful for the past 20 years because of our loyal customers and their trust in my fashion eye.  We wanted to convey the experience our customers receive in store, online.

Now, every week I will upload a head to toe look on the website and write a post detailing each piece and what is so special about it.  You, as the customer, will have the opportunity to read and understand why I styled the specific look the way I did and then be able to purchase the entire look or just that specific piece that caught your eye! We want to provide an easy styling website that doesn't overwhelm you with options.  After the week is over, you will no longer be able to shop the blog once a new post is up but that doesn't mean you cannot read through them for your own fashion inspiration!  Welcome to our new journey ...

This week, I'm focusing on the new-neutral: animal print.

Animal print has never looked so good. Leopard print comes and goes in many different styles but this lightweight plush jacket is a winner.

This leopard jacket is versatile. For a dramatic, sleek, dressed up look, wear this Velvet by Graham and Spencer jacket over this black cotton White + Warren turtleneck. This can be your go to outfit for your next date night or your upcoming holiday party.

For a day time look just throw on the jacket over a fun denim shirt - like this Bella Dahl piece.  The fun button-up back keeps the look interesting even without the jacket.

And I can't forget these amazing black denim TRANSCEND Paige jeans. Key word- TRANSCEND- Paige has a "transcend denim" that once you try them you will never want to wear any other denim. It moves with you and does not stretch out, not to mention its super soft.

Animal print is by far the most fun and versatile neutral.  You'll keep on turning heads day and night in this one.

Til next time,

Can't Get Enough

Fall is officially here! This is my favorite time of the year with the leaves turning to the most beautiful shades of red, gold and orange.  That means fall plaids are in season too.  Many of you have stocked up on plaid but if you choose a great style you will enjoy the versatility of the piece.

This plaid dress from Bella Dahl has got it going on! It has a lil' something extra - a fringed hem. A detail so basic, but not found on your average plaid. This dress can be worn to a tailgate, a night out with your girlfriends or a birthday celebration.  Try pairing it with booties, a peep toe wedge or your favorite cowboy boots. Oh, and don't forget the hat if you are bold enough to top it off!

You can find this Bella Dahl dress in store.

Transition Season

Transitional dressing…surviving the dreaded bipolar spring weather is a serious challenge.

If you’re lucky enough to live in Northwest Arkansas you have to be ready for brisk temps in the am and hot sun by the afternoon - what I like to call yo-yo weather. To survive days like these, layering is a MUST. Ditch the winter coat and add a new transition piece to your closet. But now the question is, what piece to buy?

I have the answer – a cashmere travel wrap. They come in so many beautiful shades – you can choose from a classic neutral color or be daring and go for a bright spring shade. Ivory is my favorite choice for a nice soft neutral to go with nearly everything this time of the year along with my second favorite neutral, a soft shade of blush.

I absolutely love and highly recommend White + Warren travel wraps. They are wider than an average wrap making them ideal to wear over your blazer, dress or suiting. Once the weekend rolls around you can wear the wrap over a t-shirt with your favorite jeans, or even as a pillow on the drive to the lake house.

It's Not too Late

A New Years resolution worth keeping, it's never too late to start.

You enter this area everyday and it is usually a part of your morning routine. I am talking about your closet! After many closet and wardrobe consultations I have found an organized closet makes for an easier morning and a fabulous outfit.

Your first step is to weed out.

C'mon we are all guilty of it… holding onto items that take up space in your closet and you never wear. Ask yourself - when was the last time you wore it or why haven't you worn it? Is it too big or too small? Does it need to be altered? Is it worn and not looking as fresh as other pieces in your closet? These questions make saying goodbye to those pieces easy.

Your second step is to organize by season.

If you can fit two seasons in your closet that is helpful with the transition of seasons fall and winter or spring and summer work well together.

The third step is to organize by color then style.

It is always easier to look for an item in your closet if you have it organized by color. I recommend hanging items by sleeve-length, then body length. For instance start with your tops – tanks, short sleeve, 3/4 sleeves, long sleeves.

One great tip - use one type of hanger all the same color. I love slim line hangers!! Not only do they create more space, they also help you focus on your clothing.

White + Warren=LUXE

We love love love White + Warren. Not only do they have the best cashmere - I simply need to say they have the best knits ever.

But if you really want to know what piece you must have- I say without a doubt the TRAVEL WRAP!  This dynamic piece can be worn casually or thrown over your shoulders with your cocktail dress. Use it when you travel as a blanket, cardigan, scarf, and even rolled up as a pillow!

If you are looking to give a luxurious gift this Holiday season - GIVE with GREATNESS- The W+W Travel Wrap!

For the Love of Turkey

Okay, you're hosting Thanksgiving dinner and need to look great in pictures but you will be busy fixing the bird. Aside from your fabulous apron I know you must have - try a 3/4 length lightweight knit or blouse - no need to roll up any sleeves. ( I know you will get warm in that hot kitchen - no sweaters!) Now, for the ease you will need at the waist line - you can were cashmere drawstring pants - cozy and luxurious! If cashmere is not your thing then get out those boyfriend jeans as they fit on the hip to stay away from that extra slice of pumpkin pie at your waistline.

I've shared my recipe for Perfect Sweet Potato Casserole

Preheat oven to 350°

  • 2 pounds sweet potatoes (3 cups mashed)
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 tablespoon of orange zest
  • 4 tablespoons melted butter

  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 4 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans

Scrub sweet potatoes and cut in half if large.  Boil in their jackets until tender.  Cool; slip the peels off and mash well.  Stir in sugar and salt.  Whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla, and 4 tablespoons melted butter.  Stir into the mashed sweet potato mixture until smooth and well blended.  Spoon the mixture into a lightly buttered 2-quart baking dish.  Combine remaining ingredients; sprinkle over the sweet potato mixture.

Bake for 35 to 45 minutes

Serves 6 to 8

Happy Thanksgiving!
